An Optimist’s thoughts heading into Ohio State (ND Football pre-game post Week 1)

Hello all, this is my first time contributing to and I’m excited to be writing this, my first post for the site. I’m here to rep the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the site. So without further ado… let’s get into my thoughts heading into Notre Dame’s David and Goliath-Esque matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Now don’t you dare say I’m out of line saying our Fighting Irish are the David in this scenario. Because, let’s be real. It really feels like that. I mean it seems like at each of these big non conference matchups we seem to be bested or at least our flaws seem to be put on full display throughout. It really is sickening for any who’s gastrointestinal well-being fluctuates with each possession as mine does.

But that was then. This is now. We can absolutely start this season off in a monumental fashion with the upset of Ohio State. Heading into this one I’m sure a large portion of the nation expects Notre Dame to come out and get embarrassed. This absolutely can not happen today! With conference realignment such a daunting presence over the landscape of college football, Notre Dame needs to win games like these if it wants to keep its independent status while remaining competitive at the very top tier of college football.

I believe this can absolutely happen. And what better start could a Fighting Irish head coach ask for than winning over a national title contending Ohio State team? I’d have to imagine there are few scenarios better than that. Marcus Freeman making his debut against such a fierce opponent seems right up his alley. The young coach has set college football on fire with his climbing of the ranks of football coaching. Why not just continue a historic rise with a historic start to his tenure as Notre Dame’s head coach.

So what do I think in my humble (and very unprofessional) opinion it will take to beat the buckeyes? Well I’m thinking 3 major factors will be determining why Notre Dame will pull out this game.

First off is the offensive line. Ohio State is absolutely going to be bringing pressure with their front line. The challenge presented to our linemen today is a great one, but one that I truly believe Notre Dame is up for. Dominating the line of scrimmage is always key to dictating a football game. We are ND. Top notch offensive line play is kinda our thing… all metrics are saying Notre Dame should win the fight at the line, both defensively and offensively, so I’m confident this is a battle that will greatly aid in our winning of the war tonight. We cannot allow Ohio State room to break a large play. If we can limit the game breaking plays right away at the line, we are halfway to victory right there.

Second will be establishing a run game on the back of our three headed monster of a running back corp. Chris Tyree, Logan Diggs and Audric Estime are all going to be called at different times to carry the rock. I’m honestly confident in each of these guys. A 3 man running game means fresh legs and a change is schemes for our side. All of which will be huge in gaining any ground against the Buckeyes.

Third, and quite honestly the most important will be the turnovers of the game. This game will be one with the winning team having stolen some key momentum with a lucky break of a turnover. It’ll be a right place, right time, turnover. I just feel it. Honestly a lucky bounce could be the difference in a win and loss tonight. I’m just hoping we get those lucky breaks. And hey, we got the Lord on our side, so I’m optimistic from that.

Get ready folks, it’s about to get wild tonight. I’m fully confident in the Fighting Irish’s ability to pull this one out. The entire fan base is excited with the possibilities of the Marcus Freeman hiring. I am optimistic that this is the beginning of very great things to come for our Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I like to keep my thoughts short and sweet. Glad to be a part of the team here at

Also if your bored and wanna reminisce about our inevitable victory tonight. Check out my short thoughts on it here tomorrow morning.

Go ND!

Play like an absolute champ today,
