Aaron Rodgers calls off wedding… because Shailene didn’t want to follow him to Indianapolis?

A source close to Rodgers confirms to PEOPLE that the NFL star, 38, and the actress, 30, have split, just over one year after he made the surprise announcement that they were engaged. “It was an amicable split; it just wasn’t working,” the source says. “They’re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn’t surmount. They will remain friendly; there’s no bad blood and no drama. It just didn’t work out for them.”

Oh lawd… the drama. Aaron Rodgers and Woodley have called off their engagement. Looks like true love doesn’t exist after all kids. With so many questions about his future, Aaron had figured that he had at least found the woman he’d be with in that future.

Sadly he did not I guess.

So what happened? Well I feel like the engagement call off is always promted by a big fight then the inevitable “What are we even doing here?” Aaron has a lot of decisions to make coming up so, with his future up in the air, I like to think that maybe it was a shift in where he’d like to play come September. Maybe he had laid out a plan where half their football season would be spent in sunny San Fransisco, close to most of her work in Los Angeles. But could a change in destination have led to a fight that couldn’t be mended. What would piss off Shailene so much? Possibly a move to Indianapolis when San Francisco is where she had been told the whole time, could lead to a dissolving of the relationship. So I will say it here first…

Aaron Rodgers will be an Indianapolis Colt.

Now this is all a scenario that may, or may not have taken place. I can’t imagine that Shailene would be too excited about a move to Indy right after she had put her time in in Green Bay. Anyone not from Indiana, doesn’t know what we have here. Personally, I’d like to keep it this way. But, Indianapolis HHAASSS to be the most attractive roster for Aaron, I mean come on. The Indianapolis Colts are loaded compared to the rest of the league, they just lacked a solid option at the single most important position, quarterback.

I don’t see any reason, that if Aaron Rodgers is committed to trying to cement his legacy as not only one of the best but one of the all-time greatest quarterbacks to ever lace them up in the NFL. The difference between best and greatest, SUPER BOWLS! No single team is a quarterback away from a dynasty more so than Indianapolis. So I think this breakup may be a great sign of things to come in Indianapolis!

I mean come on, Imagine this backfield behind the Colts offensive line (should they be able to stay healthy). Jonathon Taylor and Aaron Rodgers are so much better for each other than Aaron and Shailene were. So all in all Aaron, don’t cry because it’s over, smile because your on your way to Indianapolis

Bears’ Allen Robinson III a perfect fit for the Indianapolis Colts

From the mothership…

Why it makes sense: We love the fit as a do-it-all receiver option opposite Michael Pittman Jr. But the Colts rarely spend big. Is Robinson attainable coming off a down year statistically? Maybe that’s when Indy pounces. — Fowler Scheme fit: Robinson is a smooth route runner with the physical traits to make contested catches. And opposite of Pittman in Indianapolis, the veteran wide receiver can be deployed as a vertical target in the slot and on play-action in-breakers. — Bowen

ESPN

Previously on the blog, I discussed the current QB situation in Indianapolis. Much like we need to address the QB situation this off season, the Indianapolis Colts’ front office, headed up by GM Chris Ballard, will need to add a viable deep threat option so as to open up the pass game entirely.

Adding Robinson to the team would have an immediate impact on the Indianapolis offense. Him being available as not only a deep option, but a deep threat, will open up the offense. This will give Pittman Jr. More mid range options as the opposing defense will need to cover and game plan for Allen Robinson.

Adding Allen Robinson to an already stout offense. Another facet to opening up the true potential of the offense would be Allen Robinson’s effect on the run game. Jonathon Taylor is already an absolute menace in the NFL. Led the league in rushing. Now imagine what he could possibly do with the defense having to cover the deep ball. Doing so, limits the defenses ability to stuff the box and in doing so stop the run. Now they weren’t able to stop Jonathon Taylor before, I wince imagining what he would be able to do to them now.

My favorite aspect of this whole possibility is the type of player the Colt’s would be getting from Allen Robinson. Robinson is sneaky one of the most dominant receivers in the game. I think should the Bears have been able to get any sense of an offense going during the Matt Nagy era, but this era has cast just a looming shadow over Allen Robinson’s dominant game. That’s a type of player I love to go and get. The type of guys that I know will make an absolutely game changing and immediate impact while also not making so many ripples within the news cycle to have teams reevaluate us and pump our egos. That is what I am not here for. I want my Colt’s to have a chip on their shoulder.

We’ve consistently compete despite all evidence that that really shouldn’t be the case. But now they’ve gotten good enough to actually let you down when they fail. The realization that we are in our window of opportunity to win right now, with our offensive line, Jonathon Taylor on his rookie deal, and Darius Leonard tied down, has to be very apparent in Indy.

Moves need made in Indianapolis. Do I think the Colt’s need to go and get him? Yes. Am I paid millions and millions of dollars for my analytical knowledge and proof that I can cultivate a competitive franchise, No. So as I do in all cases, even to my own detriment with the Carson Wentz trade, I will be hopelessly optimistic in my genuine confidence that Chris Ballard will be able to get this done, and if not, he already has a contingency plan in place to address the offenses deep threats.

The Colts Need to Cut Carson Wentz and spring for Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, or Aaron Rodgers

I’d say it’s about past time that the Carson Wentz Era in Indianapolis has come to an end. We are at a crucial impass. We must win NOW!!!

There’s just no winning with Carson Wentz at the helm of the team. The Colts find themselves in their WIN NOW window. Unfortunately, we can’t take the take for Carson to figure it out or “get comfortable”. He ran Frank Reich’s offense for years, if he doesn’t get it by now, what are we even doing here? The Carson Wentz era is coming to a close, and it absolutely has too. We just saw teams make the playoffs that have franchise studs under center for any team that was making any real push. The Colts are a Super Bowl team without a Super Bowl Quarterback right now. So I just wanted to look at 3 options that are making themselves ever more apparent and each day.

Russell Wilson

First let’s discuss Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson is a proven gamer, that has stepped up time and time again in huge moments. He is a top quarterback and an absolute master of his craft. A proven Super Bowl champion playmaker should be a no brainer right? Well personally, I don’t want the Indianapolis Colts to take on such an odd duck. I mean anyone who has ever seen Russell Wilson describe his inner persona “Mr. Unlimited” as his hero (I’m pretty sure both the multiple personas and the inflated sense of self here both lean towards sociopathic in my mind) knows how unsettling this guy can be. Someone that odd has garnered a reputation for being a little off from the rest of the league by now in his career. It may be one thing two work with that when you’ve drafted it and have built the entire locker room around that. I just believe that a lot of these factors make it hard for Russell to be able to plug into a championship locker room and click with the guys.

It’s a no for me dog.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers is not a pending free agent. He and the Packers agreed to a restructured contract last summer. In that deal, a void year was added for 2023 – meaning he would be able to enter free agency and be ineligible for the franchise tag after next season. The contract was also structured so that the Packers would save nearly $20 million against the cap if Rodgers is traded before June 2022. Based on that language, many have speculated that he will seek a trade this offseason.

-Logan Reardon, NBC SPORTS

This one is ACTUALLY getting interesting. Aaron Rodgers to Indianapolis sounds like a shitty day dream I may have had the year we ran it with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. Love the heck out Jacoby, he just isn’t “THE GUY”. Every team in the NFL is looking The Guy. Aaron Rodgers in one step about “the guy” he’s entered the realm of “That Dude”. “The Guy” can get into your franchise and make you a competitor, “That Dude” can win a Super Bowl with any team so long as he’s on it. If Aaron Rodgers goes to the Indianapolis Colts, the Colts would immediately become Super Bowl favorites in my book. Yes, we would need to address a deep threat option in the receiving corp, but we would be absolutely set for a Super Bowl run.

What’s helping the Colts in the Rodgers race would be their location in the AFC South, meaning that the only way the Green Bay Packers would have to face their spurned QB in a playoff game would be in the Super Bowl. This also helps the Broncos or anyone else in the AFC in their bid for Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn’t really be getting to wound up by Aaron Rodgers to Indianapolis rumors, Rodgers is notoriously “hollywood” and I wouldn’t be surprised if following his time in Green Bay he would want to overcorrect to one of the largest markets possible. I will say, the fact that even ESPN reports this as a possibility makes me fear for the all too familiar let down sure to come my way.

Kyler Murray

While Aaron Rodgers is by far the best option in my opinion, especially for a “win now” team like the Colts, I think I’d rather have Kyler Murray. Yes, Aaron would give us the best shot at a Super Bowl right now, but if the Colts were able to go out and land Kyler Murray than we would be a Super Bowl contender RIGHT NOW, with a franchise QB for the forseeable future. Whatever team gets Aaron Rodgers will most likely be dealing with a Manning to Denver or Tom Brady to Tampa Bay vibe. Both awesome scenarios resulting in Super Bowls for those teams, but both short in tenure. With Kyler Murray under center the run game could explode behind the combination of Jonathon Taylor, the offensive line, and now the scattiest quarterback out there.

Any way you boil it down. It’s time for everyone here to move on. Unfortunately, I don’t know what this would mean for Carson Wentz, as I don’t know how many other places he will get serious starting QB knods. If you couldn’t take this Colts team to the playoffs, there is a serious problem. One that MUST be addressed.

For the Shoe,

side note: We are currently looking for someone to head up writing for our Packers, Lions, and other midwest fanbases. Please let me know!

TJ Watt didn’t deserve the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Darius Leonard did.

Luke Kuechly. Brian Urlacher. Ray Lewis. Ever heard of them buddy? What an absolute flex by the Indianapolis Colts. And you know what… after that Jacksonville Jaguars loss to end the season and send the insufferable Steelers into the playoffs, I will take pride in whatever I can. And that being both Darius Leonard and Jonathon Taylor’s HOF making seasons.

Darius had a complete season. He is the all around best defensive player there is. He is a natural ball magnet. The man is constantly making plays just based on his sense of the game and where to be. He has a nose for the ball. The man is an absolute Maniac… sorry had to.

While TJ Watt undoubtedly tied Michael Strahan’s sack record, you can not sit down and actually watch Darius Leonard play and tell me he isn’t the best player there is out there. If he doesn’t make the tackle himself, he is within arms reach of the tackle each and every play. His foresight is absolutely unmatched.

I don’t understand why more people aren’t watching Darius Leonard’s game as closely as they should. It’s so crazy to say that the highest paid linebacker in the league is underappreciated. But I have to say nationally, HE IS!!! Nobody respects this man’s name as much as it nearly deserves. But as an Indianapolis Colts fan, I love it. Feed the maniac bulletin board material. I’m all for it! Let’s see what insane numbers he can get overlooked next season.

Honestly… why is this okay? Everyone loves the Watts! All-American conmen if you ask me. Too Clean… I can’t trust anyone who presents that cookie cutter clean. Can’t do it won’t do it. If I can’t tell that you’ve got a skeleton in your closet, I assume you’ve got a warehouse full of skeletons hidden somewhere.

Matt Eberflus. Just some thoughts from this Bears fan.

Matt Eberflus is making his presence felt in Chicago! Mostly through staged as all hell social media posts highlighting his work ethic

That gets me beyond geeked.

This man develops ballers and that’s exactly what we will need him to do for the Bears next year. During his time with the Colts Matt Eberflus installed his more hybrid coverage oriented schemes. This schemes have allowed some of the Colts less prototypical guys to develop into actual monsters on the gridiron. He saw that Darius Leonard was best utilized as a ball hound drifting into coverage often, but for the most part giving him the freedom to make plays where he chooses. This had freed him up to make the second round pick the Turnover King of the NFL.

He doesn’t force guys to fit his schemes, he forces schemes to fit his guys. And this practice is the way to go about cultivating the best defensive presence for your team.

While I was initially hesitant about the hire, just based on myself wanting to bring in a QB whisperer to develop Justin Fields into a top tier QB. It will be interesting to see who’s going to be heading up the Justin Fields development within the team.
With that in mind, I have come around on the hire. Never thought it was terrible, Matt Eberflus is a defensive mastermind. And when the Colts defense was clicking under his watch the whole team played with so much more joy and turnovers weren’t just turnovers, they were parties! So awesome when a coordinator can get through to an entire squad of guys.

Colt’s Hire Gus Bradley and here is my knee jerk reaction.

The Colts hired Gus Bradley as their new defensive coordinator on Friday night, bringing in another coach with a reputation for leadership, energy and the ability to fit the culture Indianapolis has built under Frank Reich and Chris Ballard.

Bradley, who spent last season as the Raiders’ defensive coordinator, first rose to prominence as the original play-caller for Seattle’s famous Legion of Boom defense, then spent four years as Jacksonville’s head coach and four more as the Chargers’ defensive coordinator before landing in Las Vegas.

At every stop, Bradley has been known for his energy, communication and his ability to get players pulling in the same direction.

-Joel A. Erickson, Indianapolis Star

GUS BRADLEY! He’s the replacement Chris Ballard and Frank Reich have settled on. Replacing Matt Eberflus with a defensive coordinator of the same caliber was going to be damn near impossible, that being said I’m by no means disappointed in this hiring. Gus Bradley brings with him a shit ton of experience, an experience that the current defensive core will absolutely respect out the gate. This respect out of the gate is going to be crucial to the Colt’s defensive success. The Colts are currently in their championship window, yes in a window without a reliable quarterback isn’t the absolute best situation but our key pieces of Nelson, Leonard, Buckner, Taylor, and Moore II are all entering the prime window of making a run for the Indianapolis Colts into the playoffs. The defense immediately respecting Gus Bradley will be crucial to coming out of the gates firing next year.

WE CAN NOT START NEXT SEASON SLOW!!!!

We seem to always be clawing our way into the playoff picture from a terrible start. We needed a replacement that can get this defensive squad hitting the field like a bunch of absolute DAWGS.

A major key to the success of the Colt’s defense next year will be Gus Bradley allowing the Colts to be the guys they’ve grown together to become so far. They are a fun, boisterous defense on the field and that definitely translates to the fan watching, no doubt. No individual more so than the Maniac himself, Darius Leonard. I don’t see this being much of a problem for the man who helmed the Legion of Boom back in the day. He allowed the larger than life personalities of that legendary Seattle secondary to be themselves so long as it translated into success on the field. By allowing them to be themselves I hope he allows himself to lend freedom to Darius. I don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t be the case, I mean Darius Leonard has more than earned the right to do whatever the absolute hell he wants to on the field. The maniac gets to the ball each and every snap, creating more turnovers than a Danish baker. It’ll be interesting to see if any of the more hybrid aspects of Eberflus’ defense may bleed into how Bradley schemes the Colts.

Great hire in my opinion. His experience is going to pay immediate dividends in filling what would otherwise be an absolute crater left in the absence of Eberflus.

No wonder he’d be looking for any reason to leave the absolute clown show that is the Raiders organization. This is an undoubtedly sweet gig he was just handed. The Colts are going to be looking to compete next year, and that defense is STOUT BROTHA!!!! So no way he could lose taking this job! Great for everyone involved. Except the Raiders, but who gives a shit about a Las Vegas team.
