The way too early pre-season rankings mean nothing really, but slight evidence that the Indiana Hoosiers are righting this ship. Short thoughts.

Well there’s a little faith booster for you. While these ultimately mean nothing, it means we are on the radar. CBS writer Gary Parrish said on the Hoosiers in his 19th spot, “The Hoosiers’ ranking is based on Indiana returning the top three scorers from a team that made the NCAA Tournament – among them Trayce Jackson-Davis, who could be a candidate for Big Ten Player of the Year. Indiana’s recruiting class is ranked in the top 20 and highlighted by 5-star guard Jalen Hood-Schifino”.

ESPN staff writer Jeff Borzello ranked the Hoosiers 21st saying, “Trayce Jackson-Davis falls into the same category as Cockburn, Dickinson and the UNC and UCLA players — not projected to be drafted in 2022 at this point but could certainly opt to leave. If Mike Woodson does get Jackson-Davis back, however, Indiana will return most of the core that got the Hoosiers back to the NCAA tournament. Miller Kopp was the only senior, and he appears likely to return for another year. Xavier Johnson and Race Thompson are back in the starting lineup, and Woodson had other options in Trey GallowayJordan Geronimo and Tamar BatesJalen Hood-Schifino is a top-25 recruit, and I’m very high on fellow incoming freshman Kaleb Banks.”

While ultimately, these “far too early” preseason top 25s mean less and less now the the transfer portals come to be more active than any professional free agency, but Indiana fans should see this as a great validation in our reasserting of the Indiana University basketball program. The Hoosiers under Mike Woodson in their first year have established a trend upward in national prominence. While our end may have ended in an objectively terrible fashion, however you may try to defend what the game against St. Mary’s was (tired, overworked, etc), our team’s season was still a success. We know the ultimate success is a national championship but it doesn’t happen overnight and having made the tournament is a genuine success for any coach in his 1st year following a firing of the prior head coach.

We are on the national radar. And that is the first step back to prominence. We need to be in the discussion to go and get the guys that will absolutely cement us as one of the top programs in the nation. By finding ourselves ranked in the preseason (albeit these will shift drastically with the transfer portal) it’s fair to say many will have their eyes on the Hoosiers, most rooting for us to fail, but nonetheless watching us. Getting into the mix is a step in the right direction for a program that lacked direction under Miller’s tenure.

After the ephemeral drought that was the Archie Miller era. Mike Woodson has immediately started steering this ship in the right direction. Say what you will about all these transfers. But that is just the nature of the beast now, and I genuinely believe that both Indiana University and the guys leaving mutually benefit from the breakups. All the guys leaving are not irreplaceable and we also can free up room for the needs of our team that truly need addressed. Least of which are shooting and a larger presence in the paint.

And again, these rankings don’t mean a thing. But it can lend insight into the thoughts of the nation in general and often manipulate thinking of the people reading these rankings. Just glad to be on them and be a topic of discussion and observation for fans outside our fine state.

Also…

Purdue finds themselves behind us among all of these pre season rankings, and I’ve got to say I’m not surprised… Ivey’s gone. Painter’s a proven dud, and that loss to St. Peters, whatever you think about that team, was the type of loss that leaves a shadow, a stink on your program for a few years to follow. Not good Matt… not good.

How inept do you have to be not to exploit this matchup nightmare? They don’t come up to the Big Man’s shoulders.

While the transfer portal could have these shifting by the hour, we currently sit higher than little brother. After all of the frustration from Xavier Johnson’s latest actions, it is nice to get a win. As small and meaningless as it is, the nation thinking we are going into next season better off than Purdue has me feeling just a minuscule amount better. And I’ll take it!

We comin’ for your job next year Matt.

LUX ET VERITAS!!!

The Colts Need to pay some people now and get some help for Matt Ryan.

Throughout this free agency, I keep thinking to myself… Why? Why isn’t Chris Ballard out here looking to chuck some dough around. What is he waiting for!?! Does he not see the writing on the wall? He needs to fix this team QUICK if he wants to be the General Manager for the Colts for much longer. I can’t imagine that Irsay will stand for this much longer considering how outspoken he’s been this last week on his frustrations with some of the moves made by the organization (mostly Carson) and his frustration with consistently losing to the Tenessee Titans. He’s had enough and he knows most of the fan base has had enough as well.

This guy wants to win bad.

So even following the acquisition of a proven veteran in Matt Ryan the Colts are still dominating the cap clearing game. I don’t get why Ballard hasn’t thrown a bag yet. I mean Irsay has been candid this week on what he’s wanting out of his squad, and I would think if I were Ballard I’d be looking to pay somebody, show that you are out here using the cap space that you’ve worked so hard to get. While getting the QB was essential, now we need somebody who can set the tone and the attitude of the receiving room.

We need to get some help. At least one of the remaining wide receivers out there is a must. We need a veteran presence to get in the buildingand help set the tone throughout our wide receiver room. While Michael Pittman is developing well, he is doing just that, developing. We need a receiver who’s been around and has really cut his teeth. We need someone who can come in and be the veteran presence all of our developing receivers can look toward.

For those of us out there thinking that we need to trust the plan here, unfortunately the plan has gotten us to middle of the road play with a carousel at the single most important position in the game. Chris Ballard is an absolute A+ talent evaluator in my book. But man… he needs to be willing to spend some of this cap space if he wants to keep calling the shots in my personal opinion. I don’t know what dream scenario Chris Ballard thinks is just waiting to present itself. But there’s no pride in going into the season as the most underpaid team in the league, so do something and make a splash Chris!

I truly believe Will Fuller has a lot left to play for. I think getting him would be a great boost to our offense. In my own, unprofessional and often delusional opinion, Will Fuller would compliment Michael Pittman Jr.’s game nicely. Will Fuller has got some NASA grade burners when fully healthy. While the last injury to hold him out was a broken thumb, I believe that his speed should not be the issue. Paying Fuller would present Matt Ryan with a dependable option at each level of the field. Jonathon Taylor in the flat, Michael Pittman in the middle, and Will Fuller in the deeper part of the field. I really think if protected by a line committed to the game plan this year, that offense could be something to write home about.

Also I guess there is Jarvis Landry… But I’m thinking his personal evaluation of his own skills may be a tad out of the range that Ballard may be willing to spend. But, I’d figure a man with his job on the line, as I believe Chris Ballard is, he’d be looking for any way to succeed at any cost to the Colts. For better or worse Chris, you can’t spend the money when you’re gone. What are you waiting for?!

Don’t be a cheapskate Chris.

For The Shoe.

I’m at a loss… Indiana Hoosiers vs Rutgers depressing recap/self-reflection

What just happened…. What. Just. Happened. I’m sick to my stomach…

Every time. This team rips my heart out.

3-14 from the 3 pt line for our “shooters”

Those refs tried to do everything but gift wrap us that win. Honestly they may have had the most positive impact on the Hoosiers entire game. Between them and Paul Mulcahy (Rutgers), I don’t know who would have gotten the player of the game had the Hoosiers won.

Every time I begin to believe again, Indiana takes what would already be crushing defeats, and makes an absolute art of it, draining me of my very soul for the course of 40 minutes again and again. No woman, not a single one could break my heart the way this team does.

This was a must win folks. Barring a run in the Big Ten tournament, looks like we will be one of the favorites for the NIT, or “the battle for 69th place”. Which in all reality is exactly right around where I had thought this season would end, just with a new coach, new system, and him trying to go get guys to fit that system I was resigned for mediocrity with glimpses of the potential future. Indiana did not really follow this formula. You see, they overperformed in moments throughout this season that I genuinely had little to no expectations for success. And every time those moments warranted me giving them more credit and with it higher expectations, they’ve failed gloriously. It’s honestly astonishing how often this has happened to me.

I’m still going to be appreciative of this team for keeping me invested as long as they have. Again, with Mike Woodson taking over this year, this season was a wash in my mind even before it started. It was going to take more than a few months to crawl our way out of the Archie Miller era. And I do still believe Mike Woodson is the man for the job in today’s NIL/”get me to the NBA now” recruiting landscape. So really writing this out is therapeutic for me. Let’s me really think on it. Let’s me calm down and see the big picture. So cheers for sticking with me to this point in my post.

I will say there is an aspect of just ranting like this that eats at me in a way that is almost unfair to this squad.

But you know what, this team has hurt me, took me on emotional rollercoaster after emotional roller coaster, got me to hope for the highest of highs while delivering some of the lowest of lows…

but do you want to know the worst part?!!!

THE ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, DOWNRIGHT DISGUSTING PART OF ALL OF THIS!?!?!?!

….

….

….

I’m still holding out hope for a victory at Purdue. WHY!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!!! WHY DO I DO THIS TO MY SELF!!!! I have a little part in my head…. NO MY HEART!!!, That is telling me a win at Purdue is a hefty tournament resume builder. Does anyone know of a good method, or a good therapist to help me silence that little voice. Because I think it may break my heart again…

They’ve been doing it to me for my 29 years on God’s green earth. Why stop now? Sunken cost bars me from cutting any losses! So a las, I ride with my boys to the bitter, gut-wrenching end.

On to PURDUE!

LUX ET VERITAS!,

This hopelessly optimistic Indiana fan boy.

Chris Ballard says a whole lot of nothing, while actually saying all he needs to regarding Wentz.

Link to Chris Ballard’s press conference from the Senior Bowl

While saying absolutely nothing, Chris Ballard was able to almost perfectly express his own frustration over the Carson Wentz situation. How much must this guy hate having to answer that question with a restrained and controlled, hollow answer day after day?

TY. I love you. Personally, your in my 5 favorite Colts of all time. I say favorite because I know he isn’t the best, but boy has he been a pleasure for a large portion of my life watching sports religiously. But his lack of production as well as the injuries across the board tells us the Indianapolis Colts need an overhaul in the wide receiver room (apart from Pittman Jr.). We have to go get some options to throw the ball deep if we really want a qb who CAN throw the ball deep!

I’m starting to spiral on the fear of this season. Indianapolis has pigeon holed themselves by building a roster that is quite arguable to most well rounded in the league. Absolute Dawgs on both sides of the ball. Can handle their own in a dude off against any squad in the league. But the apparent talent at each position only sheds light on just how poor the situation at Quarterback is. You can’t win in this league without production under center. And while Carson had his moments, the guy seemed to be lacking a sniff of a clutch gene. With more and more coming out detailing how the Quarterback off season may not be a quarter as hectic as everyone had thought it might be I am becoming more and more resigned to having to run it back with Wentz.

And listen, there are ffffaaarrrr too many Colts fans that say “it’s been a year! give him some time.” To them I say, that is the dumbest thing I have heard in a minute! This is years of bad play. He got more than enough time to prove himself in Philly and got ran out of town. Also, newsflash if you don’t understand how the salary cap and drafting goes in the NFL, good teams can’t keep all their guys. The Colts are in their window of opportunity to get a Super Bowl. It feels like we are in a Ferrari driving for greatness, only problem is we are missing the steering wheel to steer the whole thing!

As each day passes I grow more weary on the reality of the Colts QB situation. I also grow more convinced we need to go get Jameis to eat some “W”s in Indianapolis.

I keep convincing myself that our defense will be able to negate his own Turnover rate (which to Winston’s credit is ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING) to a certain extent and while also giving us a QB who racks up yards. I mean his stats are pretty hilarious considering how often he’s been at or near the top in total yards in the NFL while also leading the league in turnovers at points. If we have to have a sub par option, may as well be a fun one to watch!

I WANT TO TRUST YOU GUYS, I DO!!! But come on!

Broncos Beat Writer: Teddy Bridgewater to Indianapolis Colts. Guy obviously knows nothing.

“I see Teddy as a perfect fit for Indy,” said Patterson on the Mile High Insiders podcast. “A one-year, two-year deal with Indy and try to see what they want to do there. I think it makes too much sense not to happen”

si.com

What an all time dunce. Classic beat reporters throwing it at the wall. I wouldn’t give this too much thought. I mean “see what we want to do here”, you gotta be kidding me with that mess!! In case the league isn’t on notice yet. THE COLTS ARE IN WIN NOW MODE. We just built the team around an empty hole waiting to be filled by a quarterback that understands the opportunity there is to win with the roster Chris Ballard has built. This type of Quarterback seems to be showing up more and more often in the NFL these days.

We got some DAWGS just waiting for an Alpha QB to lead the pack to the promised land. I’d even be able to look past the cringe factor of Mr. UNLIMITED. PLEASE GOD JUST GET THE COLTS AN ARM FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!

While this does seem an all time dumb move to me, I’m not paid the big bucks to make this decision and I’m smart enough to know just how dumb I am, but this just doesn’t jive with me. I will say Pat McAfee backing up this thought is a little disconcerting because I believe Pat is still very familiar with the top brass in Indianapolis. I could see him hearing a lot of noise before it’s made public… here’s hoping Pat doesn’t know anything on the matter

Fan Duel

And here’s hoping our boys get the help they deserve before my whole future is a series of “What If” reflections on the squad we current have. Get these guys a ring now, because we can’t keep this squad forever waiting for the most important piece to present itself.

These Dawgs deserve a dawg leading the offense!!!

Here’s hoping Ballard already has a plan in place, because I am really tired of having to scramble for a QB year after year. Stability is great everyone, but stability is needed at more than general manager and the head coach position. Indianapolis is in their window of success and need to capitalize this off season and free agency if the Colts don’t want to be looking back on this time and thinking, we should have gave it all for a quarterback. Either way, I’ll continue trusting the process of Chris Ballard and the Colts’ front office.

With all the hypotheticals out there currently it can be easy to spin out and go crazy as a Colts fan this off season. Without some major moves by the Colts in free agency and trading draft picks honestly, they will be dead in the water. All those who say run it back with Carson haven’t watched him over the passed 3 years of his career, and haven’t been watching the games at all I guess. That can’t be the solution. Sending only positive vibes to the front office though. Let’s go get some more dawgs this year!

Team need a drastic shift in momentum? How about some new uniforms! Indiana Hoosiers vs. Maryland postgame

MIKE WOODSON IS PLAYING 4D CHESS FOLKS!!!! Need a drastic shift in your teams emotional direction… NEW UNIFORMS BABY! Worked for the Mighty Ducks against Iceland, worked for the Indiana Hoosiers last night. These black history month inspired uniforms are an absolute thing of beauty. I’ve got to get one. The peonies (Indiana’s state flower) are an awesome addition to an ephemerally classic design.

Hoosiers ball together!!!!

Banner 6 is back on TRACK BABAY!!!! God, the month of February has made me forget why I love college basketball, hell, WHY I LOVE SPORTS!!! I didn’t play a single second in this game, but I slept the best I have all month after that one. The joy I feel in this moment is why I do this to myself. Can’t appreciate the highest of highs until you’ve experienced the lowest of lows. And yes, I get it was Maryland at home, but it snapped our monumental losing streak, so I’m going to appreciate the heck out of it.

I’m going to be honest with you, about 3/4 through this game I was pretty convinced that the Hoosiers would find a way to screw this one up. Thank God they didn’t!

The Indiana Hoosiers played well yesterday, headed by Race Thompson with 19 points. Race has become an absolutely essential piece to this team. His game gets better each day and it’s awesome to see! It was an absolute block party in Bloomington while the Hoosiers tallied 6 total blocks. Race and Trayce dominated in the front court and this aided in propelling the Hoosiers to their first win in six games.

Xavier Johnson balled out. The stat line is impressive in its own right dropping 24 points and dishing out 6 assists as well. But watching, you saw a senior that was facilitating like a master composer at times. He really was a floor general in this one.

So let’s give it up for the boys. They earned the win last night and the Hoosiers are officially out of a monumental backslide. That being said, these next 3 games are Indiana’s last chance to make some noise with some good, and solid wins. Need to be heading into March with all guns blazing. This is absolutely a step in the right direction, but we can not regress to the mindset or whatever it was that led to this epic downfall in February.

Here on out we got @Minnesota, vs. Rutgers, @ Purdue. This is where we circle the wagons and make our last strong stand. Those last two games are going to be drag out battles. Minnesota, while no slouch, does not present nearly the threat the other two teams do. I’m hoping winning 2 of these 3 will be enough to secure Indiana a bid in the NCAA tournament. If we can win out, especially with that last win in West Lafayette, Indiana would have to be in.

Dear God, please no NIT.

Let’s not make it 6 and maybe win a game in February. Indiana Hoosiers vs. Maryland pregame thoughts

Alright. Here we go. Fifth times the charm Hoosier Nation! This will be the fifth opportunity the Hoosiers to stop the bleeding and save our season. We need a win here. I feel dumb for having even typed that. No duh!!! Our season is currently a five alarm fire and unless we win today… I’m afraid we are out of the tournament for sure. And I know it’s gotta be bad because I may be the most hopelessly optimistic Hoosier fan there is on Earth.

Just so you have an idea of where we are currently sitting in the eyes of the nation…

The Hoosiers are reaching a point where every game is heartbreaking, but the particular form of heartbreak varies. At Ohio State, a short-handed IU team, missing Rob PhiniseeTrey Galloway and Khristian Lander, rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit and even built a four-point lead. It was an inspired performance from a team that had previously looked fearful. But Indiana was held scoreless over the last 2:47 in regulation and lost 80-69 in overtime. That makes five losses in a row, and the Hoosiers have dropped to “last four in” status.

John Gasaway, ESPN

Unfortunately, looks like any more losses, especially a loss to Maryland at home, would be the final nail in the coffin. We haven’t been able to close out a game all month. It’s pretty mind blowing! The worst possible evidence of this was definitely the end of regulation for that Ohio State game. How are you supposed to win anything when you can’t score a single bucket in the last 3 minutes of the game! 1 bucket, 1 FREE THROW EVEN!!!! Would have secured the Hoosiers an essential win in Columbus against the Buckeyes. But alas, the Hoosiers couldn’t score a single point.

Watching Indiana Hoosier basketball this month has been absolutely gut wrenching. Just watching a game is a stress inducer I haven’t felt since each and every game was the biggest deal ever back when Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo were preseason #1. Which I think means I had such high hopes for this Indiana Hoosiers squad this year. Who wouldn’t have those hopes with the unexpected success we had towards the beginning of the year. Trayce Jackson-Davis staying really set the tone for this team to start the season.

All of this program momentum seems to have been spent and entirely stomped out by this 5 game losing streak. It’s been a true return to form. Unfortunately that form is the same program that falls in February. That being said, I believe that once Mike Woodson gets his guys in there, we will get the program back on track. So I wasn’t expecting anything this year really.

So going into this Maryland game today. I am going to still give Mike Woodson the benefit of the doubt. Its been 3/4 of a season, not time to totally freak out just yet. Once he has the guys he recruited specifically for his system, then we can judge him.

As always… Go IU FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!

Shout out Jeff Howard

A look at the Aaron Rodgers destination odds from Vegas, and the Colts’ place in those odds.

Green Bay Packers-250
Denver Broncos+350
San Francisco 49ers+800
Pittsburgh Steelers+1200
Indianapolis Colts+1200
Tampa Bay Buccaneers+1400
New Orleans Saints+2000
these are the odds currently available on Draft Kings

We are looking to land a whale here in Indianapolis. Looking at these odds, I actually gain some confidence. See whenever I actually picture Aaron Rodgers as an Indianapolis Colt it seems like a pipe dream. If the number 12 were to be resurrected for Aaron, I may finally be able to come to terms with the way Andrew Luck left us (Yes it still hurts!!! We should have 2 rings with this squad and him under center! So Yeah STILL HURTS!!!). It looks like Vegas is more than convinced Aaron Rodgers will remain in Green Bay. The fact the Denver Broncos are favored so heavily over the other options doesn’t make much sense to me personally. It’s a new day in the NFL. There’s a new generation of QBs on the scene and no single division is that more apparent than in the AFC West. Do you think Old Man Rodgers wants to face both Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes II twice a season. If he can dictate where he’s going at all then why would he want to head there. That ain’t it chief.

Looking at Indianapolis’ odds gives me confidence that Aaron Rodgers the Colt is an actual possibility. I genuinely felt, before really looking into the odds, that Pittsburgh would be a potential landing spot that actually made sense for all involved. Seeing the Indianapolis Colts have the same odds to land him gets me very excited. A lot of the times I overthink Indianapolis Colts odds or news and assume I’m seeing stuff align because I want to, almost wishful thinking on my part. But, wishful thinking that I can identify and often times I discredit the real stories because I convince myself its too good to be true (My teams across all sports have hurt me in case you can’t tell).

So confirmed. Rodgers to Indianapolis has potential legs here!!! Tied for 3rd in odds (other than GB again) is a very nice place to be sitting in my opinion. Just looking at each of the teams on this list I get confidence in knowing that anyone looking at those names and asks themselves who’s a QB away from winning a Super Bowl, I think Indianapolis is the no brainer. Jonathon Taylor’s run game will open the field, while an amazing offensive line is blocking, and Darius is leading the stout defense. What’s not to love there… I guess the wide receiver situation. Pittman is still growing into a stud in this league, but if we could go get Allen Robinson and have a legitimate deep threat, I don’t see how he couldn’t want to come to Indianapolis.

Last thing…

How crazy is it that Jordan Love will be taken in the first round and then never even receive a shot for that team? What a garbage move that pick was. Should have let the Colts get him Green Bay. I mean on the bright side, how important is it to hit on your first round picks? *sarcasm*

Kid Cudi calls Kanye West “whack”, thank God someone’s saying anything to this tyrant.

Last week, Ye said his collaborator (whom he released a 2018 album with under Kids See Ghosts) would not appear on ‘Donda 2’ due to his friendship Davidson, who is dating his estranged wife Kim Kardashian. West posted a handwritten note to Instagram last Saturday (February 12), sharing the news with his fans. “Just so everyone knows Cudi will not be on Donda because he’s friends with you know who,” it read. “You know who” appeared to refer to Davidson. Cudi responded to Ye on Twitter, saying that the pair had “talked weeks ago about this”. “You’re whack for flipping the script and posting this lie just for a look on the internet,” he tweeted. “You ain’t no friend. BYE.”

Charlotte Krol, NME

Just the latest in the Kanye stuff there. Just my thoughts on Kanye’s circus at the moment from here on out. Ye is absolutely poppin off and it’s actually sickening to witness. I was originally like he is just mentally ill, a musical savant, but a mentally ill one. And I almost felt guilty talking smack about how he is handling all this… that time is way passed.

Kanye West… GenYus artist. Garbage human.

What an absolute loser. He’s making very serious threats against people half his age. I think people are quick to forget just how old Kanye West is, and how old Pete Davidson is for that matter too. I mean guys. Kanye been putting stuff out for decades now. The man is 45. Pete Davidson has been around in the public conscience for a few years too. But, we need to remember that when he was first introduced into the Saturday Night Live cast he was a mere 20 years old. Guy got the job comedians would straight up murder a small village for before he could get a beer. Bananas.  He’s also throwing shade to Billie Eillish, who’s under half his age. Not only that his age and years in the game have allowed him to amass fans from multiple generations putting him at the very top of American celebrity. So he is just an absolute lover for how often he is punching down.

That’s straight up pathetic Ye… come on man. Quit punching down!!! Not saying they aren’t as talented as you, just saying Kanye has been able to amass a following over the years that has snowballed into the monster we are all witnessing now.

Kanye tweeted out this 4th grade computer class project earlier this week. Again. Grow up.

If you aren’t worried about these youngins he’s hurling legitimate threats at, worry about his actual youngins. Kanye West is going to be straight up scarring his kids with this stuff. It breaks my heart to think how these kids have to be concerned and scared. Their parents are an absolute mess and one of them is making death threats on Mommy’s friend Pete. It’s so childish what he is doing. So selfish it’s honestly bonkers.

Why do we think its okay to just watch this play out? Honestly someone could get hurt or worse at this point. Kanye does have some fans who worship the ground he walks on, and honestly that in itself is sad. I get it, separate the art from the artist but this is getting out of hand. Its so weird that no one is stepping in or their havent been restraining orders thrown down. Which doesnt even really matter because the VERY REAL THREAT of a dumbass fan going nuts and offing Pete Davidson is present man. And I want to state again… that is a VERY REAL POSSIBILITY!!!

It feels like everyone is just waiting for someone to step in, but it aint happening. Nobody is giving it back to him and thats why even this small act of resilience against Kanye from Cudi is on my radar. It’s the first time someone he has in his circle finally told him he’s done with all the Kanye mess. I loved Kid Cudi finally standing up to him earlier this week with his “dinosaur” response too.

The craziest thing is he doesn’t have a single real one in his life. He doesn’t have a buddy or blood that will tell him to slow his roll. Just a bunch of yes man. Everyone in his camp should be downright ashamed.

Kanye. Your 44 dude. Grow up.

Kid Cudi, you the man.

The Colts Need to Cut Carson Wentz and spring for Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, or Aaron Rodgers

I’d say it’s about past time that the Carson Wentz Era in Indianapolis has come to an end. We are at a crucial impass. We must win NOW!!!

There’s just no winning with Carson Wentz at the helm of the team. The Colts find themselves in their WIN NOW window. Unfortunately, we can’t take the take for Carson to figure it out or “get comfortable”. He ran Frank Reich’s offense for years, if he doesn’t get it by now, what are we even doing here? The Carson Wentz era is coming to a close, and it absolutely has too. We just saw teams make the playoffs that have franchise studs under center for any team that was making any real push. The Colts are a Super Bowl team without a Super Bowl Quarterback right now. So I just wanted to look at 3 options that are making themselves ever more apparent and each day.

Russell Wilson

First let’s discuss Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson is a proven gamer, that has stepped up time and time again in huge moments. He is a top quarterback and an absolute master of his craft. A proven Super Bowl champion playmaker should be a no brainer right? Well personally, I don’t want the Indianapolis Colts to take on such an odd duck. I mean anyone who has ever seen Russell Wilson describe his inner persona “Mr. Unlimited” as his hero (I’m pretty sure both the multiple personas and the inflated sense of self here both lean towards sociopathic in my mind) knows how unsettling this guy can be. Someone that odd has garnered a reputation for being a little off from the rest of the league by now in his career. It may be one thing two work with that when you’ve drafted it and have built the entire locker room around that. I just believe that a lot of these factors make it hard for Russell to be able to plug into a championship locker room and click with the guys.

It’s a no for me dog.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers is not a pending free agent. He and the Packers agreed to a restructured contract last summer. In that deal, a void year was added for 2023 – meaning he would be able to enter free agency and be ineligible for the franchise tag after next season. The contract was also structured so that the Packers would save nearly $20 million against the cap if Rodgers is traded before June 2022. Based on that language, many have speculated that he will seek a trade this offseason.

-Logan Reardon, NBC SPORTS

This one is ACTUALLY getting interesting. Aaron Rodgers to Indianapolis sounds like a shitty day dream I may have had the year we ran it with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. Love the heck out Jacoby, he just isn’t “THE GUY”. Every team in the NFL is looking The Guy. Aaron Rodgers in one step about “the guy” he’s entered the realm of “That Dude”. “The Guy” can get into your franchise and make you a competitor, “That Dude” can win a Super Bowl with any team so long as he’s on it. If Aaron Rodgers goes to the Indianapolis Colts, the Colts would immediately become Super Bowl favorites in my book. Yes, we would need to address a deep threat option in the receiving corp, but we would be absolutely set for a Super Bowl run.

What’s helping the Colts in the Rodgers race would be their location in the AFC South, meaning that the only way the Green Bay Packers would have to face their spurned QB in a playoff game would be in the Super Bowl. This also helps the Broncos or anyone else in the AFC in their bid for Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn’t really be getting to wound up by Aaron Rodgers to Indianapolis rumors, Rodgers is notoriously “hollywood” and I wouldn’t be surprised if following his time in Green Bay he would want to overcorrect to one of the largest markets possible. I will say, the fact that even ESPN reports this as a possibility makes me fear for the all too familiar let down sure to come my way.

Kyler Murray

While Aaron Rodgers is by far the best option in my opinion, especially for a “win now” team like the Colts, I think I’d rather have Kyler Murray. Yes, Aaron would give us the best shot at a Super Bowl right now, but if the Colts were able to go out and land Kyler Murray than we would be a Super Bowl contender RIGHT NOW, with a franchise QB for the forseeable future. Whatever team gets Aaron Rodgers will most likely be dealing with a Manning to Denver or Tom Brady to Tampa Bay vibe. Both awesome scenarios resulting in Super Bowls for those teams, but both short in tenure. With Kyler Murray under center the run game could explode behind the combination of Jonathon Taylor, the offensive line, and now the scattiest quarterback out there.

Any way you boil it down. It’s time for everyone here to move on. Unfortunately, I don’t know what this would mean for Carson Wentz, as I don’t know how many other places he will get serious starting QB knods. If you couldn’t take this Colts team to the playoffs, there is a serious problem. One that MUST be addressed.

For the Shoe,
